Post 605 Commanders Corner

Dear fellow Legionaires,

I hope this message finds you well as we transition into the season of spring after a prolonged winter. As we gather our thoughts, I want to express gratitude for our collective resilience during challenging times.

Looking ahead, we have a series of activities planned for the spring and summer months, including the Easter Egg Hunt, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day celebrations. I believe these events provide us with opportunities to come together and strengthen our bonds as a community.

In order to ensure the success of these initiatives, it's essential that all entities collaborate effectively. I encourage everyone to participate in our monthly meetings, where we can share ideas and perspectives to improve our legion together.

Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to working with each of you in the coming months.

Best regards,
John Dunlop
Commander

Greetings from Chapter 605 of the Riders!

We are excited to announce that the Riders are still going strong at Post 605! Thanks to the guidance of State ALR Director Phil Campbell, we have now adopted legitimate Bylaws, correcting the previous illegal ones crafted by our departed officers. A big shout-out to Phil Campbell for his invaluable assistance during our meeting, helping us pave the way forward positively. We also extend our appreciation to Regional Director Rich Halter, who braved a snowy day in January to install our new Chapter 605 Officers.

Reflecting on our journey since our founding in 2008, it's clear that our Chapter comprises two distinct groups: those who enjoy paying for rides and those who simply love the thrill of riding. Moving ahead, I want to emphasize that the twelve-dollar annual dues are the sole mandatory contribution for members; everything else is optional.

On a brighter note, I am thrilled to acknowledge our Membership Chairman, Matt Dorgan, for his remarkable achievement in receiving the Pennsylvania Jefferson Award for public service. For those unfamiliar, the Jefferson Award honors ordinary individuals doing extraordinary things without seeking recognition. Matt's initiative, Building Bridges for Brianna (BB4B), emerged from personal tragedy after losing his 15-year-old daughter in 2020. BB4B is dedicated to promoting suicide awareness and prevention by bridging the gap between those in need and those offering help. Let's join together in congratulating Matt on this prestigious award and wish him luck as he represents Pennsylvania in New York City for the national award.

In support of BB4B, Chapter 605 is gearing up for the BB4B ride on Saturday, June 22, 2024. This ride is open to motorcycles and Jeeps alike. Additionally, BB4B will host an all-day event featuring vendors and family-oriented activities at the Dallastown Community Park on the same day. We invite you to join us either on the ride or at the Community Park to champion this noble cause.

If you know of anyone interested in joining Chapter 605, please share one of our membership applications with them. They are also welcome to attend our meetings as guests. Our Chapter meetings take place on the last Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm upstairs at Post 605.

Ride Safe!
Warm regards,
George “Skip” Fleagle, P.E.

SAL 605 NEWS LETTER FOR 2nd QUARTER 2024

Welcome to spring! Spring brings us a lot of cleanup from the winter and yard work begins. So if you’re helping a veteran or another member of our community, make sure you fill out a Consolidation activity slip at our meetings so that can be added to the upcoming Consolidation Report in June of 2024.

Without the Post having a Small Games of Chance (SGC) license, there will be no Spring Meet Raffle. Once the Post obtains the SGC license, raffles will resume.

I would like to see more members attend our meeting and get involved with our activities. Learn about our incentive program. Help our veterans and our community. Our meetings are the 1st Thursday of every month at 6 pm. For the rest of 2024 they are Apr 4th, May 2nd, Jun 6th, Jul 11th  (since the first Thursday is the 4th of July),  Aug 1st, Sep 5th, Oct 3rd, Nov 7th and Dec 5th. And enjoy a lite meal with all afterwards.

At our last meeting, members voted to keep our dues the same for 2024-2025; $35. Proposed SAL 605 Constitution and Bylaws were handed out at our last meeting, but some changes are required to them. New documents will be handed out at our April 4th meeting. Nominations for 2024-2025 officers will take place at our May 2nd meeting with voting on Jun 6th.

Monday May 27th will be the Memorial Day Parade in Dallastown.
As far as District 22 goes, the next two SAL District meetings are as follows:
Sunday May 5th @ noon @ Post 974 Fairview Twp.  (The “SWAMP”).
